Pacifier debate

Thaddeus loves his "sucker". Which I love cause he is a loud child and it is nice to have a way to make him less loud during sacrament. On the down side, I don't want a 4 year old running around with a pacifier in his mouth. I consider myself very good with getting rid of things, but honestly, I don't want to get rid of it! I had the bottle gone before Piper and Thad's 1st birthday, but I wanted it gone. I don't know if I should get rid of it before the new baby, or wait till the baby is a few months old and then try? When do YOU get rid of the Pacifier?

Such a tough decision. Is this a good place to say I'm so happy I had thumb-suckers?

I am not setting the best example since London still LOVES her pacifier. Every one of my other kids were off their pacifier before 2 yrs and now she is almost 2 1/2. So ... that being said you may want to do it now before the baby only because you will be so tired and want him not crying waking you or the baby up etc. I know you probably don't have energy now but it will be less once the baby comes. Also you may just also start to wean him ... for example London gets her pacifier at bedtime and naps and I try not to give it to her other times (although I am far from perfect at that). Good Luck!!!

once my kids start throwing it out of the crib and then start crying for me to come and give it back to them. I wasn't a fan of moving the crib so I could get the pacifier next to the wall, so that was it. I made them quit cold turkey. I'm so cruel.

He only has it when it is sleep time as it is, except for Sundays during church. He has his blankie so he wouldn't be out cold with no comfort but it is so easy to make him happy I hate to give it up and find a harder way to make him happy. Call me lazy! I know I want it gone before nursery but lucky me I still have 5 months before nursery!

With a new baby coming, it may not be the best time to take his best friend (the sucker!) away. He is only a year old, I've seen much older kids with them. Perhaps after he has adjusted to Odessa and doesn't feel quite as threatened?

have no clue I think whatever you gut tells you....Rebecca Harris was the trick for James. I was in the hospital while I was prego with Alesy and she watched James, He binky needed replacing and so she bought the orange rubber kind and James didn't like it so he carried around his old binky with the nipple cut off for a while. So really whatever makes you happy cause with Three kids...you got to have some means of calming all the kiddos. Seriously no judgin if you keep the binky, I probably would.

So my oldest took a pacifier til he was like 3 months and he was done! Then we moved to Thatcher and my nieces PINK pacifier some how moved with us. Porter found it and was hooked. He was 1! I did not get rid of it until he was like 2-2 1/2. With kids being so close they need something that is theirs. I weaned him for sleep time only and then oops it broke!(I cut it!)He was old enough to understand it was broken. We got him a new stuffed animal to cuddle with and a sticker chart to help see the nights he slept without it and that he was a big boy and didn't need it anymore. Your sanity is more important than when he kicks the habit! Its your call sista!! oh and we used the little dum dum suckers for church!!

I think it depends how much you hate it. My kids liked their pacifiers for a long time. When they were old enough for nursery they had to start leaving it in their bed and could only have it at bed time. Kaden still uses his at bedtime. I would like to toss it, but will let him have it until he adjusts to having a little sister.

ok.. catching up on my friends blogs... Ian was 3 when we got rid of his binkie, Luke was about 2.5 and mason refused to take one. I don't think he'll be 4 and still have a binkie.... they tend to forget about them as they get older... just take it away gradually when he's older... I don't see anything wrong with hangin' on to it! He'll need comfort when the baby comes anyway! he IS a middle child! (we tend to get left out of a lot!) hahahah!
