How many holes are in your head?

Well for Piper, there are two more! She talked her Daddy into getting her ears pierced for her birthday. Her birthday isn't till the 30th, but we did it a week early since we would be super busy on her birthday. She was excited and a little nervous. She got embarrassed after, but now that the pain is gone, she LOVES them! She choose Minnie Mouse earrings, and she looks super adorable! (And way to old!)
Piper showed Odi and she wants hers done now too. Daddy said on her 5th birthday she could get them done to, but we have to work on letting people talk to her, get close to her and touching her before that is possible!!

I'm super impressed! She did great! And good job having the two do it at one time. I can't believe she didn't even cry! I cried and I was 9...but you know me..I'm STILL a cry baby!

I was searching for my GF's blog and came across your interesting one about with a great story about your dd, Piper, getting her ears pierced and your YDD, Odi, wanting them too! DeJa vu.

When I read it, it reminded me of a situation with both our girls, one aged 3 and the other 23 mos. When our ODD wanted her ears pierced, we agreed and she did great except for a few tears as expected. What I didn't anticipate happened.

Our oldest Missy, wanted to know why her baby sister couldn't have earrings too. I tried to explain to her she wasn't old enough until her baby girl cousin, aged 6 mos showed up for a visit with cute little gold balls in each ear! Again, she wanted to know why her baby cousin had earrings and her
sister didn't.

I asked our ped her advice and she encouraged me to go ahead and pierce our toddler ears now since she showed me a picture of her 8 mo dd with little pearl earrings! I was surprised at her response and told her I would think about it. Her reasoning was when mommy cared for them, there was never any problems during the healing time, but when little girls wanted them, they often failed to care for them properly.

The tipping point came soon enough...one day, dh calls out to me from the family room asking me to come in there. Our dd had gotten a pair of my earrings and was asking dh how to put them in her ears! She almost put one in her ear canal! Dh laughed and told me to take her to have them pierced before we had to take her to the ER to remove an earring! At this point, I was ready and told dh I started seeing other little babies including two in church nursery and another little girl in our playgroup. I finally realized how cute our little toddler would look with cute earrings and yielded to pressure.

I don't know if you'd considered having your younger dd's ears pierced now, but after I did, my ODD was so proud her sister had earrings. It was so much easier than my ODD having it done. She was cried for 10 seconds. Needless, both girls looked adorable in their pics with little pierced ears and never had problems.

I'd say if you've remotely thought about it, then your mommy intuition is telling now is better.
